Oh, I think that you need to look at this story making a relation with the time that it was written. It represents the bohemian but poor life that artists and bohemians of Paris had. This libretto suits perfectly in Verismo thoughts: show the reality of everyday life, mostly of the lower classes.

I like “La Bohème” but it’s not my favourite opera :P
